Local Harvest

Even though the groundhog is calling for another month of Winter, I'm starting to think about cooking again. I kind of get into kicks with the changes of the season - wanting to cook stews and roasts in September and seafood in the Spring. I cook the food I'm craving, and then settle down until the next season comes along. My thoughts these days are turning to Spring vegetables.

This past weekend was one of the odd, off-season farmer's markets. We love to take the dogs down for a good, social walk and take a look at the local offerings. My goal this year is to support the area farm stands. It's great to find organic produce, but I'll settle for locally-grown. I also have plans to purchase a produce subscription - between me & Rob, and Adam & Liz in the office, we should be able to do justice to a typical "family of 2-4 that eats in most nights" offering.

Local Harvest is a great online resource for finding sustainably grown food in your area - just pop in your zip code. The site also has a calendar of events, subscription look-up, active forums, and more.

Happy eating!
